Education & Clinical Experience
Dr. Lee is a licensed psychologist in the state of California (PSY 26279) and works with individuals of diverse issues and backgrounds. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree from the Western Michigan University. She completed her APA pre-doctoral internship at the University of Southern California and post-doctoral program at the Santa Monica College. Dr. Lee has experience in university and college counseling center contexts (e.g. Santa Monica College, University of Southern California, University of Minnesota, Hamline University, Metropolitan State University, and Western Michigan University) where she counseled many undergraduate and graduate students and provided consultation/outreach to faculty, staff, and parents. She also provided counseling at many community mental health centers and worked with individuals of diverse ages and cultures. Dr. Lee worked at various hospitals and provided psychological services in diagnostic evaluations, psychological assessments, crisis interventions, and psychotherapy.
Counseling Approach and Style
Dr. Lee’s theoretical orientation is integrative which mostly based on interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, multicultural, mindfulness perspectives and family systems theory. In therapy, she tries to tailor her counseling approach on an individual, rather than using “one size fits all” approach. Dr. Lee also appreciates each client’s strength and natural resilience and helps her client meet counseling goals. She supports a client to be compassionate with self, where she believes, healing starts.
Dr. Lee sees the importance of building the working alliance with clients and tries to build the trusting, respectful therapeutic relationship through empathetic understanding. Dr. Lee has received feedback that she is genuine, caring, warm and insightful in working with clients. Furthermore, Dr. Lee has a passion for helping people from diverse cultural backgrounds and tries to empower them to find their own strengths and identities. She experienced both Western and Eastern cultures and is very culturally empathetic and sensitive. Dr. Lee is bilingual in English and Korean and helps many individuals and families with multicultural adjustment issues.
